Çelebi takes over Bandırma Port

A participation of Çelebi Holding, Çelebi Bandırma Uluslararası Limanı İşletmeciliği A.Ş. took over the operating right of the TCDD Bandırma Port under a 36-year lease based on the agreement executed in Ankara.

The Port of Bandırma, into which Çelebi’s investments will amount to USD 50 million in five years, will be the gateway of Southern Marmara and Central Anatolia into the world.

Specialized in port and marina operation, as well as in ground handling, food, tourism, airport construction and operation sectors, and a leading name in the service industry, Çelebi Holding submitted the highest bid in the amount of USD 175.5 million and earned the contract for TCDD Bandırma Port on 16 May 2008, upon which the take-over agreement was concluded. Upon finalization of the post-tender process, the agreement on the transfer of the operating right of the Bandırma Port for 36 years has been signed in a ceremony in Ankara by Çelebi Holding Chairman Can Çelebioğlu, Minister of Transport Binali Yıldırım, Minister of Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Vice President of the Privatization Administration Ahmet Aksu and Turkish State Railways (TCDD) General Manager Süleyman Karaman.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Can Çelebioğlu said that the services will be diversified with investments worth USD 50 million in the next five years and the target is to transform Bandırma into a port handling 11 million tons of bulk and general cargoes, 300 thousand TEU containers and 200 thousand vehicles in the next decade. Çelebioğlu noted that with the said volume to be achieved, the Port of Bandırma will become a key logistics hub in the region and take on a major role in the economic and social development of Bandırma and its environs with new job opportunities to be created.
